5 Tips to make a Tiny Bathroom Look Bigger
When looking closely at the matter of bathroom design, you can see that most people would typically choose a larger one. Why? Because generally speaking, people associate spaciousness with comfort and any feeling of being cramped - understandably - as no one wants a sense of claustrophobia anywhere in their house. But let’s say that you have a small bathroom and you can’t literally get an extension. What do you do? Here are some tips.
1. Different usage of colour on walls to lighten the room
According to the principles of how human beings perceive size visually, light colours in a room naturally make us feel it is larger, while darker ones make it appear smaller. You don’t need to go over the top with this; nor do you need to use only the colour white, for example. Any light colour will suffice, especially lighter shades of pink, blue, grey or sand (as in light yellow). This will have the effect of making your small bathroom look substantially bigger, and applies regardless of whether you are using wallpaper, tiles or paint.
2. Lighter colours when it comes to curtains/hangings
As with the principle described above, the importance of light and dark in relation to how each can make a room appear more spacious or more claustrophobic is often underrated. This applies not just to the wall but also the actual bathtub. In a small bathroom, the last thing you want is to use dark hued colours for any hangings or curtains.
3. Replacing large fixtures with smaller equivalents
Because most of the space in an bathroom, typically, is taken up by the three most important objects present: the loo, sink and bathtub, this means that making sure none of these are too big is a good way to increase space. Look carefully at how much room is being used by the above three items. If you can clearly see that they could be replaced with more streamlined equivalents that are just as functional but even somewhat smaller, then consider this; it might seem complicated, but if it makes a huge difference to how comfortable and pleasant your bathroom is to use, then why not make the effort?
4. Reducing clutter in the room
Look carefully at how your bathroom is organised. If there are a lot of things that have been either left or arranged in a messy fashion, then this will contribute to any sense of the room being smaller than it actually is.
Examples: Don’t use standing toilet paper holders. Have your holder set in the bathroom wall instead; this will make a big difference to space. Make sure your trashcan is fairly small. Don’t put too many of your personal care products on the sink. Etc. Just examine how you have set up your bathroom and see how you can reduce the amount of space used unnecessarily.
5. Maintaining a clean mirror
When we look in a mirror, we see ourselves, but we also see light. It reflects off of everything. Thus, it naturally follows that if your bathroom mirror is unclean, the light doesn’t reflect as powerfully. Maintain your mirror’s cleanliness and you’ll see all the difference. Take photographs of your bathroom before and after you’ve cleaned the mirror during the day and observe how much better the surfaces look - and how the space appears greater - after you’ve wiped down the mirror.
Just be aware that you always have the freedom to improve your bathroom’s space - even when you can’t literally have an extension. From reducing the number of items present to using smaller objects and other little changes, there is more potential for positive change than you might have realised.Read More
3 Tips for your Workplace Bathroom
When it comes to improving the morale of its employees, one of the best things a business can do is ensure the workplace is kept clean and looks fresh. With this in mind, it might be worth considering having an action plan based around cleaning, whether it’s aimed towards whatever cleaning service you work with or the employees responsible for making sure said cleanliness is maintained. Here are three tips: (including a specific component for the bathroom)
1. Adding (and caring for) Greenery
Look at how people use plants to make any environment look more pleasant. The same applies to a bathroom - most especially to a bathroom, as that’s a place everyone wishes to look both clean and vibrant. Think about how you can place specific plants in vases to add vibes of sophistication, style and class; bamboo, for example. Just ensure that detritus from any plants is tidied up and keep the water in the vase(s) as fresh as possible. Or use fake plants. In any case, keep it all as clean as possible.
2. Keep Ventilators clean and regularly replace Air Fresheners
Another great way to make your bathroom more welcoming and airy is to look into placing air fresheners in the right places, and the same for ventilators. Keeping both of the above clean is also essential.
3. Maintain careful balance between practicality and tech
It goes without saying that for freshness to be genuine, sanitation is a must. To this end, why not install touchless devices which have the effect of promoting better hygiene? This would include, for example, soap dispensers which are touch free, and also paper towel dispensers and hand dryers with the same advantage. Equally, ensure you don’t aim for too high a level of technology that normal hygiene maintaining practices get neglected, such as leaving enough space for garbage and frequently emptying the trash can. A good example of a method for ensuring this is maintained would be to have a dispenser inside every stall in the ladies’ room.
There are many methods that can improve your workplace bathroom and, in turn, the whole of your workplace with it as a result. Examine the three tips above and test them out. You can achieve more than you might think.Read More
Simple tricks to keep your bathroom sparkling clean
Given that the bathroom is a place in your home you and your family will likely be using with greater frequency than almost any other room, it’s not easy to keep clean. This applies regardless of whether you are dealing with your teenage children or your spouse, either of which may be spending too much time there or not being clean enough.
But, with a few straightforward tricks and tips, and some cheap but good quality cleaning supplies, you can keep your bathroom disinfected, clean and easy and ready to use. Here some simple tips:
A. Keeping a squeegee in the shower and using it to remove moisture after a shower or bath can be a great way to keep mold and mildew problems at bay.
B. Use white vinegar to ensure toilet cleaning is easy is very simple but effect. It’s no more than soaking a few paper towels in the vinegar and using them to line the rim. After, just add roughly a gallon of said vinegar to the bowl of the loo and allow it to do its work while you work on cleaning the rest of the bathroom; then, simply remove the paper towels and flush. You’ll be left with a loo that is shiny and clean. This method works on all kinds of stains, hard water stains most so.
C. You can keep your bathroom cabinets organised by using bins and baskets. Use them to store such things as extra toothbrushes, makeup, etc, and remember that having everything neatly organised can decrease cleaning time by 50%.
D. Using a hand pump container of soap rather than bar soap will make it easier to clean your countertops and also remove the problems which can be caused by soap scum.
E. It’s important for your towels to dry quickly. For this reason, if you’re looking to ensure this, giving them more space with an over the door towel bar can be a great method.
F. Make sure you take the time to experiment with different bathroom cleaners to find whichever one is most effective.
G. Stashing a spray bottle under the sink (making access easier) will speed up cleaning.
H. To prevent soap scum and mildew before they start, try spraying your shower curtain with a bleach solution. Twice a day is enough to make this work.
I. Try filling your sink with warm water and adding a capful of your solution of bleach. Allow this water to sit while you clean the rest of the bathroom, then just remove the plug, letting out the water and dirt.
J. Use dryer sheets to clean up dust bunnies. Reserving a few of these sheets for the bathroom which can be used to clean up debris from the floor and said dust bunnies can be very effective.
Finally, be aware that while cleaning the bathroom is never pleasant, the tips explained above (which are all time saving) can reduce the amount of time you spend there. You can use that saved time to chill out, be calm and relaxed and just enjoy your home.Read More
